May 2, 2012, Garden Grove CA: Delilah and handlers pass with flying colors again! Nose Knows attends the 2012 Bedbug Forum and certification with IBBMA. Working with different handlers to perform the NPMA's BMP's for K9 certification, Delilah demonstrated that not only can she find bedbugs rapidly, she can work with a number of different handlers to perform her job. In fact she was able to complete the 20 minute test of 4 hotel rooms in an unbelievable 3 minutes and 23 seconds! No one was able to beat that time all week, not even dogs up to 10 times her size! She is now independent third party certified for another year. This certification is backed by Nose Knows' daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly in-house training, testing and documentation.
Philadelphia PA, June 2, 2011: NPMA's 1st National Canine Conference. Delilah is the top of her class again, enabling Nose Knows to become the ONLY Arizona Licensed Pest Management Business to complete independent 3rd part certification for the K9/handler teams used to find Bed Bugs!
The world renown training facility in the field of detector dogs is located near Tampa Florida. The Master Trainer is William H. Whitstine Jr. Bill has been a leader in the field of canine training since 1989 when he was the first person to attend the Maine State Police Canine Academy in Accelerant Detection. Bill is the author of the only published book on accelerant detection canines and was the founding president of two International organizations; the Canine Accelerant Detection Association and the International Termite Detector Dog Association. Bill has been featured on over nine TV shows, including several segments on the Animal Planet and The Discovery Channel.
During Bill's career as an arson inspector with the local fire departments, he was the first to testify in court with his canine. Among his firsts, along with his canine teammate's testimony:
Bill's arson dog, Villain, was probably the most famous black Labrador retriever of all time! If you see images of a black lab at your pet store on refrigerator magnets or other artifacts, it is likely an image of his best friend. The unfortunate passing of Villain shortly after 9/11 was a loss to Bill and everyone who cherishes the love between animal and human.
Bill's history in developing detector dogs has been as the innovator in demonstrating the accuracy and proven methods used by Nose Knows. Over the years, he has used the expertise developed in arson investigations to transfer that technique to many other applications. He developed the termite dog after finding termites in his own home and determined that finding critters could be another application of the dog's keen sense of smell. That lead to the original termite dog and the International Termite Detector Dog Association. Later he expanded the proven training methods to develop the Mold Detector Dog. Now the Bed Bug dog is helping find and precisely locate infestations.
Nose Knows LLC follows the National Pest Management Association 'Best Management Practices (BMP) for Bed Bugs'. This methodology is now part of the Integrated Bed Bug Management Association (IBBMA) K9 certification program.
The bottom line is that each certification program requires annual testing. That results in a dog and handler team that is accurate on the day of the test-but depending on the companies efforts to maintain that accuracy-the certification is only as good as the individual companies calibration and in-house testing procedures. Nose Knows LLC performs routine testing and training sessions to keep the accuracy and repeatability of the canine and handler teams at the highest level. Thus, the companies expertise with dogs must combine with in-house expertise in developing testing and calibration procedures. No one in the industry has the full background in these areas to match Nose Knows LLC.
